Professional background

My name is Dr. Attila ZSIRKA-KLEIN. I obtained my general medical degree in 1995 at the Faculty of General Medicine of the Marosvásárhely University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

I naturalized my medical degree in 1997 at the Szentgyörgyi Albert Faculty of Medicine of the University of Szeged with an excellent qualification.

From 1995 to 2003, I worked as a resident at the Semmelweis University I. number surgery clinic.

In 2003, I passed the surgical examination with an excellent qualification.

In 2004, I completed an ultrasound examination course.

My expertise extends to the complex surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), especially Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, including both acute and elective surgical interventions.

Surgical treatment of IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) includes surgical solutions for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. These diseases cause chronic, recurrent intestinal inflammation and often require surgery to treat complications or control the disease. Here are some important points about surgery for IBD:

Crohn's disease and surgery

Indications:

  • Intestinal blockage (obstruction) or narrowing (stenosis)
  • Painful abscesses, fistulas
  • Chronic bleeding
  • Symptoms unresponsive to medication
  • Intestinal tumors

Surgical techniques:

  • Resection: Removal of the diseased part of the intestine and joining of the healthy sections.
  • Strictectomy: Removal of the part of the intestine causing the stricture in order to restore intestinal patency.
  • Fistula and abscess treatment: Excision of fistulas or drainage of abscesses.

Ulcerative colitis and surgery

Indications:

  • It is a serious disease that does not respond to medical treatment
  • Perforations
  • Chronic bleeding
  • Toxic megacolon
  • Precancerous or cancerous lesions

Surgical techniques
:

  • Proctocolectomy: Removal of the entire colon and rectum. This can be extensive surgery or a step-by-step procedure.
  • Ileum-pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA)After the colon is removed, a new “pouch” is created from the ileum (the final section of the small intestine) and connected to the anus.
  • Ileostomy: The end of the small intestine is led out through the abdominal wall (stoma), which can be temporary or permanent.

New developments and technologies

  • Minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy): Reduces surgical trauma, results in faster recovery and reduces the risk of infection.
  • Application of robotic technology: More precise manipulation and better surgical results during complex surgeries of the intestinal system.

Postoperative care

  • Follow-up and rehabilitation: Regular checkups to avoid complications, including infections, scarring, and abscesses.
  • Nutritional support: Special diet and nutritional supplements for an optimal healing process.
  • Psychological support: Psychological and social support for patients, especially those living with an ileostomy or other long-term changes.

Surgical treatment of IBD can be life-saving in many cases and can significantly improve patients' quality of life. However, it is important to note that surgeries are always based on individual judgment and the optimal treatment plan is developed based on the specific needs and condition of the patient.

I consider it important to listen carefully to patients' complaints, concerns and questions, devoting enough time to them. I try to explain their condition and treatment options in a clear, understandable way, involving them in decision-making. My goal is to create a doctor-patient relationship based on trust, in which patients receive understanding, care and high-level professional care from me.
